Is Your Website Working Against You?

In Articles by Steve Conforti

The world wide web is in constant flux. There are always new changes in the technology that allows our businesses to live online. But is your website working for you or against you?

Believe it or not, the Web has been around since 1991, so if your company still doesn’t have a site yet you’re a little behind. But, even if you do have one, if it isn’t current and/or branded properly, it’s not going to be attracting the right type of attention, and could actually be hurting your business.

So, whether it’s time for an update of your current website or you’re starting from scratch, here are a few questions you need to ponder before you begin.

• Who is your target audience?
• What info will they want/need to see?
• What are your competitors doing on their websites?
• How will your website support your business strategy?
• Can you incorporate any company processes into the functionality of your website?
• Do you need any kind of special features or plugins on your website?cm
• Will you hire a web designer or develop it internally?
• What is your budget for the website’s initial development?

So, What Type of Website is Best For You?

Now it’s time to decide what type of website is best for your company. Most websites are variations between these three kinds of design:

  1. Brochure-style – generally only a few pages, with content that rarely changes.
  2. Ecommerce – features a shopping cart system which allows your clients to purchase products through your website securely.
  3. Content-based – usually has a blog/newsfeed, and lots of content and pages, all driven by a fairly complex CMS (content management system), like our favourite, WordPress.

If your website looks like it was built in the 90s, or if it actually was built in the 90s, it’s time for an update. A website that isn’t professional, current, or aligned with your company’s brand could be costing you more than you know. For a free, no obligation review of your company’s website situation, contact us today.
